Sure Foundation Lutheran Church was started in 2000. However, the vision for this church started many years prior in the hearts of many people. In May of 2000, two graduating pastors from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary were assigned to start a church in NYC. With the large task of which borough and which neighborhood to begin, Pastor Aaron Robinson and Pastor Steve Gabb selected the borough of Queens and the neighborhood of Woodside.
An office was rented in the upstairs of a plumbing shop on Roosevelt Ave. In October of 2000 Sure Foundation Lutheran Church held its first worship in the home of one of its members. In 2003, the pastoral team of Sure Foundation was cut in half as Aaron Robinson took a call to serve a church in Wisconsin.
The plumbing shop where we were renting an office was closing down and the opportunity to purchase the building was before us. With the assistance of our national church body and the WELS Extension Fund, Sure Foundation purchased the building on Roosevelt Ave. A remodel was undertaken and SFLC started renting space to worship on Sundays.
Starting in May 2006, the pastoral team went through some changes again as Pastor Dan Olson was assigned to serve as pastor of Sure Foundation. Then in October of 2007, Pastor Steve Gabb took a call to serve a church in California. In May 2008, Pastor Tim Bourman was assigned to serve as Pastor of Sure Foundation.
In August of 2011, Sure Foundation held its first service in its newly remodeled building on Roosevelt Ave. The pastoral staff was stable for nine years before Pastor Dan Olson took a call to serve a church in Wisconsin in February of 2016. Again we were down to one pastor during the vacancy but received good news In January 2017 when Pastor David Salinas accepted a call to serve on the Pastoral team of Sure Foundation Lutheran Church.
Through all these years, one thing has been constant and that is God's blessings that he has poured on Sure Foundation Lutheran Church. To God be the Glory!
